| What is a daruma? "Daruma" is the Japanese spelling of "Dharma". That's short for "Bodidharma," the Buddhist monk who founded the Zen sect years ago.
The saying most often heard about Daruma goes "Seven times pushed over, eight times rises." To the Japanese, Daruma is a reminder of the resilience and determination needed to achieve success.
We think it means to have fun playing good soccer with a great bunch of talented, funny women. The name was given to us several years ago, but it aptly represents our style -- win or lose, we are determined to have a good time -- on and off the field. And oh do we. We're a close, diverse group who take our saturday games almost as seriously as we take our friday happy hours. |
